We are making an effort to be more environmentally friendly!
All our take away containers, coffee cups, lids, cutlery and straws are made from compostable materials - yes, even the plastic lids are made from plant-based products. So they are fully compostable!
We are also committed to 'Zero to Landfill' for all our general waste. There are a number of clearly-marked recycling bins around the park for plastic waste, and a food waste bin in Farmer Lee's Food Barn.
Once our current stock of gift shop carrier bags is used up, we will be switching to a recycled or a paper version in order to encourage visitors to recycle them after use.
Water Saving
All our handwashing taps have been converted to water saving taps that shut off after a set amount of time, and we use a reduced water flushing system in all of our urinals and toilets. We also have a free water bottle refilling station (located outside the Pirate Ship) to encourage people to reuse their water bottles.
Energy Saving
We are committed to converting all of our lightbulbs to low energy bulbs once the existing ones have expired. Our hand dryers and many of our exhibits are on timers to avoid unnecessary energy use, and we turn off as many things as possible overnight to save energy wherever possible.
Wildlife Paradise
Animals are very important to us, and that includes wildlife!
We sow wildflower seeds in designated areas to attract and encourage pollinators, we have birdboxes to encourage nesting, and we leave our boat pond as undisturbed as possible to allow wildlife to thrive in the depths. Every year we plant sunflowers around our Maize Maze, to provide food for the birds that visit us. We're also planning to put in a bug hotel, to give insects a place to stay when we're closed over winter!
